We are currently engaged in a significant pipeline installation project in Cottam, Lancashire, as part of the AMP7 framework for United Utilities. This initiative aims to enhance the local wastewater infrastructure and reduce flooding risks in the area

Our scope of work encompasses the excavation and movement of over 18,000m³ of material, involving extensive cut and fill operations across the site. A notable challenge was the excavation of a large trench beneath a live highway bridge, requiring meticulous planning and execution to ensure safety and minimal disruption. Following the pipeline installation, we were responsible for backfilling the trench under the bridge, restoring the area to its original condition.

In addition to the pipeline works, we have supported the installation of shafts for tunnelling beneath canals, facilitating the safe passage of utilities. Our team has also undertaken comprehensive site preparation, including topsoil stripping, bunding, and sealing of the topsoil. Subsequently, we imported stone using our fleet of wagons to construct and compact haul roads and compound areas, ensuring efficient access and operations throughout the site.

As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we are in the process of reinstating the topsoil across the site, removing the imported stone. The excavated stone is being transported to our wash plant facility, where it is processed under WRAP protocol to produce reusable aggregate products, diverting material from landfill.

This project has necessitated a collaborative effort across various aspects of our business, including plant hire, contracting, tipper hire, and low loader hire. Due to the scale and complexity of the operation, multiple site managers have been deployed, all of whom are SMSTS qualified, first aid trained, and competent plant operatives, ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency are maintained throughout the project.
